Mr. James Phillips has spent his entire career involved with the automotive industry in North America and most recently served as Assistant Vice President of Purchasing for Honda of America (HAM) and Senior Executive Vice President at a Honda Group supplier. His background includes line and senior management experience in operations, purchasing, quality, engineering, project management and accounting.
For the last ten years, Mr. Phillips has worked with Honda’s manufacturing operations in both Canada (HCM) and the United States (HAM) and has just completed a three year assignment as COO at a Honda group supplier struggling with overall effectiveness and profitability. While at Honda, Mr. Phillips had responsibility for the North American cost planning function and the sourcing components and materials for all North American auto, motorcycle and recreational vehicles. In addition, Mr. Phillips oversaw the expansion of purchasing in Canada to support a multi-plant, multi-vehicle supply system, and was instrumental in the development and integration of the supplier quality function with that of purchasing.
Mr. Phillips has extensive experience in the development of effective business planning processes, skilled in the application of TQM, Kaizen and a strong advocate of application of Value Chain Management. He is a graduate of the Honda’s top management development program. The balance of Mr. Phillips’ career was spent at TRW Canada Ltd., St. Catharines, Ont.
Mr. Phillips is currently the managing partner for Innovated Systems, a collaborative partnership specializing in leadership development, lean manufacturing, transitional management and the overall effectiveness of the business structure.
